Bobby Brown Has Been Given a Bit of Calmness
Nick Gordon was found legally responsible earlier this month for the death of his girlfriend Bobbi Kristina Brown. The late Brown’s father Bobby Brown is still hoping that criminal charges will also be filed against Gordon. “I don’t know the specifics of what happened, but as the judge has said, he is legally responsible,” says the 47-year-old singer in a new interview with pastor T.D. Jakes, which will air on his talk show Wednesday. “I know some things happened to my daughter, but it’s up to the D.A. now to do his job.”
The 22-year-old daughter of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston was found unresponsive in the tub of her home on Jan. 31, 2015. She went into a coma for nearly 6 months before she passed away on July 26, 2015 at the age of 22. Her estate filed a $10 million wrongful death lawsuit against Gordon in August 2015, claiming a violent altercation between the late daughter of Whitney Houston and Gordon led to the incident in the bathtub. “My daughter was afraid of tubs because of what happened to her mom. So I know she wouldn’t have gotten in the tub,” says Brown. “I mean it’s crazy because the tub wasn’t even full of water. It had a dustpan in it, in the bottom of the tub.”
Earlier this month, Gordon was found civilly liable in her death after he failed to appear in court twice in the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Brown’s conservators last year. Gordon has consistently denied having any involvement in his girlfriend’s death. He has never been criminally charged in Brown’s death, but the criminal investigation is “still ongoing”.
“Until then, just knowing that he’s legally responsible for my daughter’s death has given me a bit of calmness to waiting for that D.A.,” says Brown. “There’s a lot of strange things that will come out in the criminal charges against Nick.”
Though Gordon’s attorneys didn’t release a statement following the ruling, they have long maintained their client’s innocence in the investigation. “The truth is Nick tried to save Bobbi Kristina’s life,” they said in a statement following the release of her autopsy results in March. “The truth is that Nick cooperated with law enforcement since day one. The truth is that no one loved Bobbi Kristina more than Nick and no one has suffered more as a result of her death than Nick.”
