Facebook brings Instant Video to Messenger to make chats more authentic

If both parties are running the latest build of Messenger, Instant Video will become available while the chat is being viewed at both ends. Tapping the icon will start the video with the audio muted, but it can be manually switched on. Once a call is active, the video will float over the text conversation that you can continue while viewing the video. The person on the other end can view your video stream and begin one of their own too if they like.

Describing the use cases of Instant Video, Facebook says:

“It’s perfect for sharing quick moments with friends who aren’t right by your side or making your conversations richer by seeing each other face-to-face when you are messaging. Sometimes you want to ask a friend’s opinion on a pair of shoes you want to buy, weigh in on what ice cream flavour they should bring home, or just want to see your BFF’s reaction to your witty message when you’re in a place where you can’t actually talk live.”

If you don’t see the update yet, you should see it in the next few days as the update rolls out across app marketplaces.
