It hasn’t even been a week since the Democratic National Convention where Khizr Khan shamed Donald Trump. Since then, Trump and his surrogates have increased their media attacks against the Gold Star Muslim parents who lost their son, Capt. Khan, in Iraq while serving in the US army. On July 1, Roger Stone, a Trump adviser and friend, tweeted that Mr. Khan is “more than an aggrieved father of a Muslim son-he’s Muslim Brotherhood agent helping Hillary.” Prior to these recent attacks, Trump tried to maintain civility, but in an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, he questioned why Mrs. Khan stayed silent. He insinuated that her religion prevented her from speaking.
Trump Fights When Attacked
In his public appearances, Trump has voiced similar thoughts in Ohio during a radio interview. “You have radical Islamic terrorists probably all over the place, we’re allowing them to come in by the thousands and thousands. And I think that’s what bothered Mr. Khan more than anything else.” Meanwhile, saner Republicans try to salvage Trump’s campaign by focusing on other issues that their opponent, Clinton, is saying. With less than 100 days left until the elections, all bets are off.
