Where it All Went Wrong for Harper in 2016
After his monster MVP 2015 season Harper headed into last year with lots of high expectations. All was going ok until Joe Madden and the Cubs faced the Nats in May. During the 4 game series the Cubs walked Harper 13 out of his 19 at bats. In fact, in the final game of the series Harper didn’t swing at a single pitch. The Cubs swept the Nats, and from there on opposing teams copied their blueprint against the Nats. With Harper being so young it led to a lot of frustration.
He couldn’t repeat the numbers from 2015 because he simply wasn’t getting the chance. There have been reports that Harper is trying to work on the small things he can control to make him a better player, but keeping his cool and being mature will be a huge thing to watch as the baseball season is fast approaching. It will also be interesting to see if teams take a similar approach to facing Harper this year.
