Bijou Phillips Hospitalized In Need Of Kidney Transplant
Bijou Phillips was hospitalized with a blood infection on Wednesday, and is now in need of a kidney transplant.
The actress and model, whose father is The Mamas & The Papas musician John Phillips, was reportedly battling an illness recently, and took a turn for the worse yesterday. After a fever spiked, she was rushed to a hospital in Santa Barbra, where she is currently getting treatment. But a kidney transplant is said to be crucial to her recovery.
Keeping watch over the 36-year-old Phillips in the hospital is her husband, Danny Masterson. As Gossip Cop reported, Phillips and Masterson wed in Tipperary, Ireland in October 2011 after dating for many years. The two tied the knot before family members and friends in a castle. Masterson’s actor brother, Chris, was the best man.
The couple has one daughter together, Fianna, who just turned 3 earlier this week. Phillips and Masteron are practicing Scientologists, and while Scientologists don’t believe in certain drugs, such as anti-depressants, there is nothing barring them from medical procedures. The Church of Scientology notes that its adherents seek “conventional medical treatment for illnesses and injuries,” and when ill are advised to “obtain the needed examination and treatment of a qualified medical professional.”
Phillips is in stable condition right now, according to TMZ. Gossip Cop has reached out for more information. We’ll have updates as appropriate.
UPDATE: Masterson says in a statement, “Bijou was born with small kidneys and has been quietly dealing with kidney disease for the last five years, including being on the transplant list. In an effort to heal her body she has led a stress-free life with a vegan diet, which eventually wasn’t enough, and she’s been privately having dialysis. She recently found out one of her friends is a match and is optimistic that she will have a transplant soon.”
