Nationals Sign Matt Wieters
The Washington Nationals have signed catcher Matt Wieters to a 2 year 21 million dollar deal. The deal allows Wieters to opt out at the end of the first year if he chooses. Wieters is a four time All Star and has spent his whole career in Baltimore. During his 8 year career he has racked up 117 homeruns.
He will bring a switch hitting ability to the Nats as well. The deal clearly shows the Nats weren’t happy with the catcher situation. The Nats had lost Ramos to free agency after he injured his knee had Norris as the expected starter this season before they signed Wieters. Even though Wieters is a good proven player he did have tommy john surgery on his throwing elbow a couple years ago which could be a concern.
